February's Stats
I only read a couple of books this month. I only finished a couple of books this month. There's been too much going on to allow for as much reading time as I usually like. All the same...
Books read:
Seduced by Moonlight, Laurell K. Hamilton (personal collection) - Oh dear. This was very difficult to read after that excellent Anne Bishop book I read in January. I mean, I expect self-indulgent faerie pr0n from this series, but this book started out really poorly. Not only did I feel like I was reading one of Hamilton's masturbation fantasies, but there were obvious errors in the text that should've been caught in editing, and I mean glaring errors, because I don't usually notice those kinds of details. Maybe even the editors had a hard time staying in the story? And I swear if she can't think of a better way to describe a shining Sidhe than "I glowed as if I'd swallowed the moon," ...ARGH!!! About half way through the book I wished I'd kept tick marks inside the front cover just to count the ridiculous over-use of that description. ...However, the book redeemed itself in the second half when the story line returned to the courts and court politics and intrigue. I did enjoy the second half of the book enough to make up for the pain of the first. I will be reading the fourth book, but I'm right on the edge of dropping this series. I could never read another Merry Gentry book and not feel like I'm missing anything, but I do have book four already, and if it can pick up where three left off and actually hold some semblence of plot, I expect it will be amusing enough to be worth a read. I will start it the next time I need something light and extremely inconsequential to read. - 3/5 stars (but just barely)
Curly Girl, Lorraine Massey (personal collection) - It's not really a book one would normally read, more of a reference book, but I did read it cover-to-cover. (Not that it took all that long.) I've been shampoo-free for over a year and a half now, and as much as I love my simple hair-care routine, I was willing to change it up a bit to see how much curl I could get out of my hair. I'm a week and a half into following the routine Massey recommends, and I have to say that my hair and scalp are loving it. I've always known I had wavy hair, the way it always looks like it needs to be combed, but I've been getting some corkscrew curls out of my hair the past few days! The book is not at all a compelling read and more than half filler, but for the quality of information provided, ... - 5/5 stars
365 Less:
I'm having a hell of a time trying to cut&paste my list for February, so I'll just sum up...
January -38 items + February -21 items = Net -59 items
31 days of January + 28 days of February = 59 days
I'm still right on target for being down a net 365 things by the end of the year.
