Company Meeting Days
So I attended the first day of the company meeting yesterday, and I have to say I had a really good time. I got to spend the morning at the registration table chatting it up with one of my fabulous coworkers, then everyone gathered for a quick lunch, and for the rest of the day I was included in all the official business. It was very interesting to get a more comprehensive look at everything that goes on here.. Previously I'd only really known the department for which I write documentation, and what little I could garner about the many other departments by working phones and trying to figure out how to best route calls. Business is good here, so the meeting was very upbeat and even exciting at times. It's not often one can say one enjoyed a business meeting, so there you go.
There was a brief break just before 5pm and we scooted back to the office to see my mom before she took off. Yes, my mom wound up covering the phones for me, a temp for a temp. *L* She worked as a receptionist for many years and was damn good at what she did, and has been considering looking for some temp work or even a job share situation. I've been teasing my husband about having it rough because now his wife and his MIL work with him! -giggle-
The meeting was held at a local country club, and around 6pm everyone started heading back for drinks and dinner. The night wrapped up with employee recognition and awards. I was really glad I got to be there for this part, because not only did I get to see my fabulous husband introducing his team (which he did splendidly and cool as a cucumber!), but he was awarded a very nice watch for having billed over a million dollars since being with the company, AND he was named Employee of the Year! That last award came with a nice bonus check, but just as lovely as the money, maybe even more lovely, were all the wonderful things said about him and the work he does. I have tears in my eyes just remembering. I'm SO proud of my man!!! He was stunned by the recognition, but I do think he deserves it, and so do a lot of his coworkers who came up to him afterwards and told him so. I'm soooooooo proud!!!
The meeting continues this morning, but I'm back on the phones, which means I have this whole damn building to myself! It's kind of creepy and relaxing at the same time. Trying to run to the bathroom and back before another call comes in is a treat though, letmetellya! heh. I've had the mailman and a couple of delveries come in. My registration partner from yesterday was back for a few to set up the luncheon tables and I gave her a hand. I'm expecting lunch delivered yet, and one more service person to stop in, but I'm really hoping the latter doesn't come until everyone is back. He's coming to swap out a rental/lease(?) car for one of the employees who was very short with me and obviously pissed about it all this morning. I need to ask this person coming to not only swap the license plates out on the cars, but to move this guy's stuff out of the old and into the new, because the guy was too pissed this morning to clean the car out himself. Just because he was pissy, doesn't mean I'm willing to pass that on to some poor delivery guy, so I'm really hoping they don't come until he's back here to deal with it himself!
Lunch in a little bit, then I get to watch my man give a quick presentation. Not sure what the rest of the day holds, as I'm off the clock then, but my husband will probably want to hang around and get some work done.
